The apartment was very clean, except for one of the mattresses which smelled like cat pee. There were plenty of towels/toilet paper and the kitchen was stocked with all the basic cookware. The bed in the guest room has planks that are laid on top of the bed frame to keep the mattress up. They are supposed to be screwed into the frame, but since they aren’t we were rudely woken up when the mattress fell through the frame early in the morning. That can be easily fixed, and I assumed that it had been before we got there since I was not the first person to mention this happening. But, it wasn’t. The biggest problems I had with this apartment is that 1. The air mattress had a slow leak in it and I was told it would be replaced that day. We were there 4 nights and it was never replaced. 2. This one isn’t the owners fault, but there are drug dealers who have posted themselves outside the apartment building. They are there all the time. They were frequently yelling at other people who are always loitering on that street too. It did not feel all that safe.
it is well located and has the essentials.
Our family of 5 stayed here for 6 days. The best thing about this apartment is the location which is very convenient to the Green and Orange subway lines. It's also within walking distance to many sites such as the Boston Commons, Chinatown, theatres, etc. Lots of food options at your doorstep. A few criticisms that contributed towards my "ok" rating were: - The unit didn't feel clean. Signs of dust and hair were evident. The building is a bit older (which is typical of downtown Boston) and have the usual downtown crowd at the front door so just be aware. - We stayed during the end of Aug/first week of Sep and temperatures were still warm on some days. One of the room's AC doesn't work and was very stuffy. - I tried doing laundry during my stay but the machines only operate on a pre-paid card which you load. However, the machine in the building doesn't work and there were no instructions on how to do this. Just so happens, a resident was also doing laundry and informed me that the card can be loaded at the adjacent building at 60 Boylston. Clear instructions should have been given on this issue. Generally, the unit is still a good option for a larger group who want a bit more space than your typical hotel room. Just be aware of the above issues.
