Don’t book any place with Evonify. My boyfriend and I booked a place in Boston. It’s winter time so it’s really cold. The check in instructions say you’ll have a key fob and laundry card waiting for you in the apartment on the kitchen counter. There was neither when we arrived. There was also a plastic shower curtain duct taped to the window into the apartment. We contacted the host and they said maintenance was supposed to have come to fix the curtain since the previous guest had somehow broken the curtain. They said maintenance would come the next day. We realized when we were getting ready for bed that the apartment was pretty cold so we tried to turn on the heat on the thermostat. Nothing we did worked. So we let the host know about that too. They never responded. Maintenance didn’t come the next day to replace the plastic shower curtain with an actual curtain. We had to contact Airbnb directly and even they struggled to contact the host. Airbnb offered us a partial refund for the night we’d spent without heat and said they were working on getting the host to fix the issue. The host ended up messaging us to ask if there was a thermostat in the apartment. I said yes and that we’d already attempted to use it and no heat was coming from the heater. I also asked when maintenance would be coming to fix the curtain. The host never responded again. Airbnb told us that the host said there was nothing wrong with the heat and that the problem was fixed. Complete lie. No one ever showed up to look at or fix anything. So how could the heat be magically working? So we spent three days in a freezing cold apartment and Airbnb gave us another partial refund but refused to give us a full refund because we “chose to stay in the apartment instead of taking the offer to check out for the last night of our stay.” Chose? It was not a choice. We could not afford to find a new place to stay at for just one night and neither Airbnb nor the host offered to help us find a place or compensate us for it. The one bright spot was that the place was very clean. After this experience I definitely wouldn’t recommend Evonify or Airbnb to anyone. I’ll probably talk people out of booking an Airbnb to be honest. At least at a hotel problems will be fixed when they arise.
